Candor dramatically exceeded the initial campaign goal, ensuring the event was a major success. The festival also won the Outstanding Event Award from the RedBud Awards hosted by the Oklahoma Travel Industry Association.
Citizen Potawatomi Nation (CPN), is a federally recognized Native American tribe based in Oklahoma, known for its rich cultural heritage and provision of governmental, economic and community services to its members.
CPN hosts the annual Firelake Fireflight Balloon Festival, which draws thousands of attendees from across Oklahoma and surrounding states. After the festival was canceled due to the pandemic, CPN engaged Candor to build momentum and promote the return of one of central Oklahoma’s signature events.
Candor interviewed CPN officials to understand the tribe’s goals, festival target audience and effectiveness of past media relations tactics. We analyzed content from similar events to better grasp what might draw large audiences and increase tourism.
We then developed a targeted media relations strategy focused on building momentum and maximizing coverage. We hosted the festival’s first media preview event and pitched human-interest stories about specific aspects of the festival, like the 5K and free concerts with popular country artists. Through a comprehensive PR plan and strategic storytelling, we positioned the festival as a must-attend event.
