Mid-America Christian University

Mid-America Christian University (MACU) is a private Christian college serving more than 2,400 students annually.

The Ask

MACU asked Candor to modernize its mascot logo, moving away from the previous “Crusader” mascot while keeping the “Evangels” name. The university sought a modern design that honored MACU’s mission, history and heritage.

The Process

Candor led the redesign process by developing initial concepts, refining direction, creating multiple iterations and incorporating feedback to create a modernized and meaningful logo. The updated Evangel mascot logo features a majestic bird with soaring wings and a blazing torch, symbolizing MACU’s mission to shine Christ’s light into the darkness. 

Building Hype

To build excitement and highlight the redesign, Candor created: 

  • A launch video showcasing the mascot’s meaning and unveiling the updated logo 
  • A magazine spread for the university’s Mid-American featuring the logo’s evolution and significance 
  • Custom sticker concepts with a variety of designs 
  • An Athletics version of the mascot logo, which inspired the new mascot costume 

The Big Reveal

The redesign was unveiled at a back-to-school event celebrating MACU’s largest on-campus enrollment in history, marking a pivotal moment for the university.
